Target Audience:

Continuing Education Credits:

  • For Virginia EMS providers - activity has been submitted to the Virginia Office of EMS for at least 18 hours of Category 1 continuing education credits
  • For Physicians and Nurses and Out of State EMS Providers - A certificate of completion will be awarded to participants who are not Virginia certified EMS providers.

Paramedic and author Steven “Kelly” Grayson is the featured presenter during the Tidewater EMS Council’s 2016 EMS and Emergency Nursing Education Expo. 

Grayson will join some 25 presenters during this year’s education expo featuring five tracks and more than 50 continuing education topics for BLS and ALS providers and emergency department staff. Click here to download the current course list.

Grayson is a critical care paramedic for Acadian Ambulance in Louisiana. He has spent the past 22 years as a field paramedic, critical care transport paramedic, field supervisor and educator. He is a former president of the Louisiana EMS Instructor Society and board member of the Louisiana Association of Nationally Registered EMTs. He is a frequent EMS conference speaker and author of the book En Route: A Paramedic’s Stories of Life, Death, and Everything In Between and the popular blog A Day in the Life of an Ambulance Driver.

“Is this the end of spinal immobilization?” and “Down and dirty chest checkout” are two of Grayson’s five topics during this year’s expo.

Returning speaker Gene McDaniel will provide an all-day scenario-based patient assessment workshop. Thomas Schwalenberg will facilitate a half-day trauma skills challenge.

The two-day Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course will also be included in this year’s expo.

A lunch and learn session will feature cardiologist Robert Lancey, MD on the subject of chest trauma. A dinner and learn focusing on stroke care and strategies will be presented by John Agola and Kira Lanier.

Social Events: A St. Patrick’s Day pub crawl with complementary transportation to downtown Suffolk has been arranged for Thursday evening of the expo. Just sign up when you register. A casino night will be held Saturday evening (no signup required). Suffolk tourism has also arranged a "Legends of Main Street: A Suffolk Ghost Walk" for Friday night ($8/pp), a "Great Dismal Swamp Safari" on Sunday morning ($8/pp) and and guided tour of Cedar Hill Cemetery's 32 acres of hilly terrain and ancient cedars on Sunday afternoon ($5/pp). The registration for the entire Expo including all educational sessions, light breakfast each day, a lunch, a dinner and casino night with hors d'oeuvres is only $50.
