TEEX Medical Preparedness and Response to Bombing Incidents - July 18-19
The Virginia Department of Emergency Management, Bon Secours Virginia and TEMS are teaming up to offer the TEEX MGT-348 Medical Preparedness and Response to Bombing Incidents course, July 18 - 19 at the Tidewater EMS Council in Chesapeake. The course is open to fire and EMS responders, hospital staff and emergency planners. Six New Directors Join TEMS Board
On March 14, 2013 the Tidewater EMS Council Board of Directors held board, officer and executive committee elections for a two-year term. While many of the directors were reelected, six new persons joined the board on April 1. They are Jeffrey Terwilliger, public safety director for Accomack County; John McNulty of Chesapeake; Paul Holota, MD, assistant medical director for Norfolk Fire-Rescue and attending physician with Emergency Physicians of Tidewater; Jeffrey Meyer, EMT-Paramedic and emergency medical services coordinator with the Portsmouth Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services; Christopher Jacobs, JD, an attorney with Kalfus & Nachman and former Virginia Beach Rescue Squad volunteer; and, Geoff Miller, assistant professor and director of simulation at the Eastern Virginia Medical School.
General Assembly Wrap-Up
The Virginia General Assembly adjourned February 23.  Various EMS and public safety-related bills and resolutions were considered this year. Several bills impact EMS and public safety directly; others impact citizen safety and health. Here is a wrap-up report following this year's session. Although a number of bills passed the House and Senate, most are pending the Governor's signature.
