The Bariatric Support Unit (BSU) is a pre-stocked trailer with the resources needed to provide Functional and Access Needs equipment in public shelters during emergencies; specifically for bariatric shelterees. The BSU is designed to deliver bariatric equipment where it is needed; however, it is not intended to deploy to a single shelter and remain there.

Each Bariatric Support Unit contains the following items to support bariatric shelterees during emergencies.
Bariatric surge beds
Hoyer lifts
Bariatric wheelchairs
Heavy duty walkers
Shower Chairs
BSU deployment locations
There are two BSUs located in the Hampton Roads region, one in Tidewater and the other on the Pennisula making them available to support all 17 cities and counties in the Hampton Roads region.
