IWVRS training preps responders for hostile situations.

Isle of Wight Vol. Rescue Squad held their first class for "Tactical Emergency Casualty Care" at their training facility on August 11, 2018. IWVRS was recognized as a TECC IMG 20180811 135307193IWVRS Classtraining location early July by the Committee-TECC.

This class brought area EMS / Fire personnel and Law Enforcement together to learn how to deal with situations in which they are responding to hostile situations with casualties.

Pediatric Disaster Response and Emergency Preparedness MGT-439

A 2010 report by the National Commission on Children and Disasters identified a training gap for emergency responders, first receivers, and emergency management personnel that reduced the effectiveness in responding to pediatric patient’s and their unique needs/considerations. This course addresses pediatric emergency planning and response considerations through a combination of lectures, small group exercises, and a tabletop exercise. This is a planning not a clinical class. All students must register for a FEMA SID (student identification number). Students must bring a copy of their SID to class. CHKD Level 1 Trauma Designation Update

The Virginia Department of Health office of EMS completed its final review of CHKD’s trauma services on July 24, 2018. The review team consisted of six surveyors who met with staff, physicians, and leadership of various departments. The team reviewed patient charts, trauma policies, guidelines, and performance improvement processes for trauma services. The surveyors were impressed by the improvements made in our trauma readiness, prompt patient assessment, stabilization of injured patients, and emergency operations. Throughout their visit, all CHKD staff demonstrated their commitment to providing quality trauma care for our pediatric patients and families.

Symposium Volunteers Needed

We are seeking volunteers to support the 2018 Virginia EMS Symposium that will be held in Norfolk November 7 - 13, 2016.

The symposium has been held in Norfolk for the last 29 years.  Norfolk has hosted this event 29 of the 39 years it has been held.  The support provided by Norfolk Fire – Rescue and their Regional Partners has helped make it one of the premier EMS training conferences on the east coast.

Safety Alert - Epi

SAFETY ALERT- Epinephrine Labeling Changes- Removal of Ratios (no change in the drug product, just labeling)
This is a reminder of a change that was made in June of 2017 but is beginning to be seen in the field now.
Please remind your providers that this change has occurred.
