Overview

This session  describes how CO2 is created by the body, its role as both a waste product  and a necessary part of the body's acid base balancing system, and how  changes in CO2 measurements (i.e., capnography) reflect changes in the body's  essential processes. The behavior of CO2 in a normally functioning body is  presented, followed by sections on its behavior when specific essential  processes are not functioning normally. Guidance is presented on the  interpretation of capnography data based on the patient's presentation. The  last section discusses CO2 behavior peri-cardiac arrest.
