Overview

This presentation  will debunk the following 6 myths concerning use of tourniquets: 1.  Tourniquets should be used as a last resort; 2. If you use a tourniquet the  patient will lose their extremity 3. A properly applied tourniquet should not  be comfortable 4Tourniquets may not always work when applied to compartments  5 Tourniquets can be left in place for 8 hours or longer 6. If a tourniquet  is not available a belt can be used. Assessment of the patient and prevention  of complications associated with use of a tourniquet will be the focus of the  presentation.
