Just Culture

Overview
Just Culture is one of the most transformative concepts in the history of healthcare, but is also one of the least understood and easy to complicate. There is no single “correct” way to define and implement Just Culture, and as a result we are often challenged when trying to implement this system.
Just Culture is a system for analyzing human behavior, categorizing decision-making, and helping providers make better risk-benefit decisions. These decisions can be clinical, operational, or administrative. For front-line personnel, we will first look at the scope of the medical error issue and compares the healthcare industry to the commercial aviation industry. We will then look at other systems of error prevention and correction.
This program then reviews the three categories of decisions and what organizations do with each type of behavior. This includes interfacing with common human resources systems of discipline.
