Solving the Rubik’s Cube of EMS Leadership

Overview
Leading an EMS agency is rarely straightforward. From navigating limited resources, recruiting and retaining staff, and managing employee performance, to handling public relations, budgeting, and dealing with elected officials — the challenges are constant and interconnected. Much like a Rubik’s Cube, just when you align one side, another seems to fall out of place. But with the right approach, patterns emerge, skills improve, and solutions become more achievable. In this engaging and practical session, EMS leader Ray Barishansky — drawing on over 30 years of clinical, supervisory, managerial, and executive experience — will guide participants through key leadership strategies, including: • Using strategic planning to chart a realistic and adaptable path for your agency • Shifting from reactive crisis management to proactive process management • Identifying and monitoring the goals and objectives that matter most • Strengthening core leadership skills like delegation, effective communication, and change management The Rubik’s Cube can seem daunting at first and it can seem, at times, to be an exercise in futility. But, much like leading your EMS agency, getting all of the pieces to align is the final goal and is well worth any effort.
