Overview

This course is based on my deployment of the COLT Kit initiative. It is to inspire departments in the region to take a similar approach to neurodivergent individuals such as those with sensory processing disorders (i.e. autism). The COLT kits include noise cancelling headphones, sunglasses, fidget toys, dry erase boards, and most importantly - AAC style communication charts in multiple languages. This is to help bridge the gap of communication issues for those who need the assistance in order to effectively gather patient complaint and information just to name a few. Since deployment of the COLT Kits, one was put on every ambulance in VBEMS, we have had tremendous success. My course will include a presentation on what is in the COLT Kit and how to utilize it, and information on neurodivergent patients and the challenges that may accompany.
