Overview

In recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, this EMS-focused course examines the assessment and management of patients who have experienced strangulation assault. Participants will learn to recognize subtle or hidden signs of injury, ask trauma-informed questions, identify clinical concerns, provide appropriate treatment, make informed transport decisions, and document relevant findings. The class will also explore why survivors may minimize the event or decline care and how EMS providers can communicate the potential seriousness of non-fatal strangulation while supporting patient safety, dignity, and informed decision-making.
