Rafael Tolentino

Dr. Tolentino is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS). He was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic where he received his medical degree with honors from the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo School of Medicine. He then went on to teach anatomy as an assistant professor at the Eastern Central University School of Medicine, Dominican Republic , and subsequently completed a surgical internship before pursuing surgical training in the United States. He completed his training in general surgery at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital/Washington Hospital Center in Washington D.C. where he received several awards including the Preston/Gould Outstanding Resident Teacher Award, Outstanding Trauma Team Leader Performance, and Surgical Critical Care award. He then completed a surgical critical care fellowship at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in San Antonio, TX. Dr. Tolentino is board certified in general surgery and board eligible in surgical critical care. He is a member of the American College of Surgeons, The American Association for the Surgery of Trauma, The Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma, the Society of Critical Care Medicine, and the American Medical Association.
